The Max McNair Story

In April 2008, we learned about Max McNair through Pizza Inn of Goldsboro, where his Great Grandmother works. On the counter was a picture of this 13-year old boy who was diagnosed with a brain tumor known as a medullablastoma. Two days after his diagnosis, Max endured a long and intense surgery at the Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. It’s the kind of tumor best described as a highly malignant primary brain tumor that can be invasive, grows rapidly, and unlike most brain tumors, can spread and metastasize to different locations in the brain and spine.

Max fought courageously with his family to beat his disease, but unfortunately his form of cancer was relentless. In early 2009 cancer was discovered in his spine, a new round of treatments was ordered, but on Easter Sunday, April 12th at 8pm, Max passed away.

Max is survived by his mother Dena McNair of Goldsboro NC, Great Grand Mother Ruth Cramer, and two other siblings (Sister 18, Brother 12).
